John J. Ferebee, Sr.
Founder
The late John J. Ferebee, Sr. was the founder of Ferebee Properties Operating Company, LLC. After earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Business Administration, John served in the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer aboard the U.S.S. Pocono. Originally from Shawboro, North Carolina, it was only natural for John to return to eastern North Carolina to begin his business career after serving his country. In 1955, he started Southeastern Advertising, Inc., an advertising specialty business which he sold in 1958. From 1958 to 1976, he owned and operated an outdoor advertising company known as Ferebee-Bishop Enterprises. Seeing immense value in real estate and his ability to connect with people on projects, in 1976 Mr. Ferebee acquired both general contractor's and real estate broker's licenses and specialized in real estate development. Projects Mr. Ferebee developed include 20+ and 40+ acre oceanfront developments and several multifamily communities throughout North Carolina. Ferebee's professional niche is in the construction and management of apartments. Presently, Mr. Ferebee's legacy owns 1,100+ apartments and continues to manage them through his family business, Ferebee Properties Operating Company, LLC.
